Description
A handsome black silk brocade kaftan, completely handmade with 105 embroidered buttons and loops down the entire front. Lined in fine black silk, there is extensive metallic floral embroidery across the entire surface of the garment, front and back. There are several layers of braiding at the collar, hem, side vents and edge of the sleeves (see photos) and 16” slits at the sides. It most likely is Moroccan and dates to the early 20th century. It could be worn by either a man or woman - see measurements. The condition is excellent, especially for a garment of this age. We note some light fraying under the arms (see photos).
