~*~ Hello and Welcome to the Textile Trunk! ~*~ Please follow us on Instagram, we are @textiletrunk A very fine, early 18th century embroidery, English or possibly French. 27 , handmade floral sprigs ~ each one unique in colors!~ This piece dates from the first half of the 18th century ~ it's a remarkable work of art. This wonderful embroidered piece is on a silk ground, however there was a lining that was embroidered through, so the back fabric is a very very finely woven cotton. Each sprig is outlined in silver metallic thread. The top half of this piece is worn and someone has brilliantly used an 18th century silk brocade as a patch. Also, in the top half someone has used a piece of 18th century painted silk to patch where the silk ground had shattered. The bottom half of this piece has survived beautifully! ~ The silk around the bottom 12 of the sprigs are beautifully intact. At the top, the sprigs are beautiful, the silk ground has shattered and is mended in areas! A rare and special treat.
